Vergil Ortiz Jr. looks to secure a win in his first fight in over a year. He faces Fredrick Lawson in Las Vegas. The fight and undercard action airs on DAZN worldwide.

The 25-year-old Ortiz was on a roll at the welterweight level, knocking out the likes of Maurice Hooker and Egidijus Kavaliauskas. His last fight was a win in August 2022 against Michael McKinson. Several contests got nixed in 2023 due to Ortiz suffering from a case of rhabdomyolysis.

Now healthy, Ortiz is ready to take over a new division at 154. He may not be coming to the division alone. Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. expressed interest in moving in weight following their undisputed welterweight title fight in 2023. Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions is ready to book those fights for Ortiz.

"We’re looking forward to the opportunities against Crawford, against Spence, against —I hate naming PBC fighters because Al Haymon has them all protected, yeah, the likes of Crawford," De La Hoya said to FightHubTV via Boxing Scene. "You want to go after those top guys, and Vergil’s gonna be waiting in line, waiting for that opportunity to become world champion."
