In the NHL, New Year’s Day means only one thing: It’s time for the Winter Classic.
This year, one of the greatest traditions in sports gets a new look. For the first time, the Winter Classic heads to the Emerald City, with the two newest franchises in the NHL — the Seattle Kraken and the Vegas Golden Knights — set to meet at T-Mobile Park, the home of the Seattle Mariners.
It’s the first time the event will be held in the pacific time zone. Both the Kraken and Golden Knights are set to appear in the event for the first time in their franchise history.
The game also marks an important Pacific Division clash. The Golden Knights, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, look well-positioned to make another run for glory. The Kraken, meanwhile, are still looking to find their footing in a muddled Western Conference on the heels of a stellar 100-point season in 2022-23.
Here is everything you need to know to watch the 2024 Winter Classic.

Who is playing in the 2024 Winter Classic?
This year, the storied tradition invokes two of the NHL’s newest franchises in the Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Kraken.
Both teams are making their first appearance in the Winter Classic.
The Golden Knights, a year removed from winning the Stanley Cup, are in the midst of another stellar season. Vegas sits near the top of the NHL and the Pacific Division as the calendar flips to 2024.
After making the playoffs for the first time in franchise history last year, the Kraken again find themselves squarely in the mix. Seattle is currently on the outside-looking-in in the preliminary wild-card picture.
Where is the 2024 Winter Classic?
- Venue: T-Mobile Park
- Location: Seattle, Washington
The 2024 Winter Classic will be played at T-Mobile Park, home of the MLB’s Seattle Mariners.
Not only is the city of Seattle hosting the event for the first time, but this also marks the first time that the Winter Classic is to be played in the pacific time zone.
T-Mobile Park becomes the eighth different baseball stadium to host the Winter Classic.
2024 Winter Classic jerseys
Jerseys for the Winter Classic usually draw off the franchises’ storied traditions, which forced both teams to think outside-the-box for this year’s designs.
The Kraken will wear uniforms inspired by the 1917 Seattle Metropolitans, a retro franchise from the Pacific Coast Hockey Association. The uniforms feature a barber-pole striping of three different colors: deep sea blue, ice blue and off-white.
The Golden Knights drew their inspiration from the city of Las Vegas, basing the uniform designs off the city itself in the year 1917 — 100 years before the inception of the Golden Knights. The color scheme includes a vintage white and a heritage gold, resembling the working-class theme of the old western front.
