Despite only being with MLS side Inter Miami for just over six months since joining from PSG in July, Lionel Messi's arrival in the USA's premier soccer competition has already proved to be a huge success.
Originally joining David Beckham's club on a two-and-a-half year deal, the Argentinian legend moved to Florida after winning his first World Cup title in Qatar back in December of last year.
During the tournament, he lifted his side throughout, scoring seven goals and recording three assists as the South American side beat France in a thrilling final that had it all.
That performance saw him lift the eighth Ballon d'Or title of his career and since then, Messi has made the DRV PNK Stadium his home, helping to turn around Inter Miami's fortunes even despite them missing out on the playoffs during his inaugural season at the club.
In MLS action, he didn't perhaps have the biggest impact, scoring just once in six competition appearances but instead, he helped his new team to lift the 2023 Leagues Cup, their first major silverware in club history.
During that tournament, the 36-year-old scored ten goals in just seven matches as he set a blistering pace after making his debut against Cruz Azul, a match in which he scored a sensational stoppage time free-kick winner. He'd then score nine times in six matches before netting the opener in the competition final.
In 2024, Messi will look to go one better and lead his Inter Miami side to MLS success as well, as he gets to begin the upcoming season from the very start. He's set to make his first appearance on February 21 as his side hosts Real Salt Lake.
