The LSU Tigers were crowned queens of the NCAA after defeating Iowa 102-85 in a historic national champion final. It was the first national championship for the Tigers and the fourth for their head coach Kim Mulkey.

Mulkey and her squad will look to do what no team has been able to do since the UConn Huskies reeled off four straight championships from 2013-16, and that's go back-to-back.

The Tigers already had a solid foundation to repeat with as NCAA Tournament MOP (Most Outstanding Player) Angel Reese returns for her senior season. The Bayou Barbie dominated last season averaging 23.0 points, 15.4 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks per game and racked up the accolades — unanimous first-team All-American, First-team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team.

And while the Tigers lost Reese's running mate Alexis Morris to the pros in the offseason they replaced her with incoming transfer Hailey Van Lith. Van Lith has terrorized ACC opponents the last three seasons but is looking for the elusive NCAA Tournament success before she ends her college career.

The combination of Reese and Van Lith has the Tigers ranked No. 1 in the nation, and a spotlight that Mulkey and her bunch will welcome as they try to repeat in 2024.

“They do know that when you are preseason ranked No. 1,” Coach Mulkey said ahead of Monday's game. “They do know that when you are defending national champions, that comes with a lot of expectations, and it comes with a target on you.”

If you think Deion and Shadeur Sanders are the only ones in the family making headlines in Colorado, think again. Shelomi Sanders will make her college hoops debut on Monday.
