The New York Knicks are flying high since they made the blockbuster trade for guard OG Anunoby over the weekend. Anunoby scored 17 points and six rebounds in his Knicks debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves and looks to be a great fit for Tom Thibodeau's squad.
Anunoby and fellow guard Jalen Brunson stay home tonight to play the Chicago Bulls, who just came off back-to-back contests against the Philadelphia 76ers to end and begin the new year.
The Bulls got off to a rough start this season but appear to be on track after big wins over the 76ers, Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Lakers over the past month. DeMar DeRozan is playing some of his best basketball over the Bulls' past 10 games with 21.8 points, 5.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game.
The Bulls have also proven to be very adept defensively in recent games. Chicago forces a lot of turnovers and has held teams to fewer than two points per possession since mid-December.
The big question for the Bulls is when will guard Zach LaVine return from a foot injury that's sidelined him for the past 26 games. He was recently assigned to G-League practices to ramp up his recovery, but that likely won't give LaVine enough time to play in this contest against the Knicks. Chicago will continue to lean on DeRozan in the backcourt with Coby White and Alex Caruso. The team could also be without big man Nikola Vucevic, who suffered a groin strain a week ago.
The Knicks want to build a winning streak to open the new year after taking down the Timberwolves on New Years' Day. New York lost four of its previous five matches before Monday afternoon's win and now has another consistent backcourt threat in Anunoby.
Brunson is still the engine that makes this car run, though, as he's averaged 27.9 points, 7.4 assists and 4.7 rebounds in the Knicks' past 10 games. Forward Julius Randle is coming off a 39-point outing, as well, and could dominate the paint if Vucevic is unable to play for Chicago.
