HISTORY.

Simone Biles is officially the best to do it. Ever.

Her sixth gold medal in the women's all-around at the World Gymnastics Championships brings her Olympic and Worlds total to 34 (and counting). She is now the most decorated gymnast in history, breaking Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo's record. She ties Japan's Kohei Uchimura with six World all-around titles.

More important than a gold was the joy Biles emitted. It was her first international competition since the 2021 Olympics where she withdrew, leaving her future in gymnastics uncertain. But as the oldest American woman to compete in Worlds in 57 years, she doesn't look like she's returning from a hiatus. She seems to just be getting started.

It was an arguably odd ending to the competition. Both Biles and Jones tripped mid-floor routine, so they changed up their tumbling passes. Jones pulled out an impressive double back after her slip, while Biles decided to play it safe when she got to her final pass. She didn't do the Biles but stuck to a double layout. It was more than enough necessary, and she won the gold by 1.633.

Brazil's Rebeca Andrade takes silver, surpassing American Shilese Jones, who wins the bronze. Those gymnasts took first and second in last year's World Championship, one where Biles did not compete. Despite dropping on the podium, it's a major improvement for Jones, nearly a whole point.

Of course, Biles isn't done yet. She has a shot at earning four more medals in the individual event finals. The vault and bars finals will be held on Saturday, while beam and floor will take place Sunday. Jones will join her in bars, beam and floor with her own hopes of medaling.

The Sporting News tracked Americans Simone Biles and Shilese Jones in the World Gymnastics Championships women's all-around finals. Scroll below for highlights.

World Gymnastics Championships results, highlights from women's all-around finals

3:51 p.m. – The two Americans reach the podium along with Brazil's Andrade:

Medal Gymnast Country Score
Gold Simone Biles USA 58.399
Silver Rebeca Andrade Brazil 56.766
Bronze Shilese Jones USA 56.322

3:48 p.m. – That'll do it! Biles trips up her leap and does a double layout instead of her signature Biles, but it doesn't matter. She still gets a 14.533 to win the all-around gold medal.

3:42 p.m. – Jones needed a near-perfect score to move into second, but she won't quite get there. She impressively recovers during her second tumbling pass after she trips midway through, but she ends with her chest down on her third pass, so her execution score won't quite be there. Nevertheless, she earns a 13.400 to move into second with only Biles left to go.

3:16 p.m. – We head into the final rotation in Antwerp with Biles and Jones on top:

Place Gymnast Country Score
1. Simone Biles USA 43.866
2. Shilese Jones USA 42.932
3. Rebeca Andrade Brazil 42.700
4. Qui Qiyuan China 41.599
5. Kaylia Nemour Algeria 41.200

3:14 p.m. – A stuck dismount finishes off a gorgeous beam routine from Jones. She earns a 14.066 to move into second place heading into the final rotation. Just where she needs to be.

2:52 p.m. – Biles leads off rotation three on the beam. She wobbles on her mount and bounces on her landing, but per usual, her execution during the routine is impeccable. Biles gets a 14.433.

2:44 p.m. – Halfway through, the Americans lead the competition:

Place Gymnast Country Score
1.  Simone Biles USA 29.433
2.  Rebeca Andrade Brazil 29.200
3.  Shilese Jones USA 28.866
4.  Kaylia Nemour Algeria 28.500
5.  Qiu Qiyuan China 28.433

2:18 p.m. – It's a 14.333 for Biles on bars. We've seen her do better, but it'll be plenty to keep her in the top of the pack through two rotations.

2:15 p.m. – Jones does just as well on bars as she did during team finals, scoring a 14.633.

2:06 p.m. – The leaderboard after rotation one:

Place Gymnast Country Score
1.  Kaylia Nemour Algeria 15.200
2.  Simone Biles USA 15.100
3.  Rebeca Andrade Brazil 14.700
  Qiu Qiyuan China 14.700
5.  Naomi Visser Netherlands 14.266
6. Shilese Jones USA 14.233

1:51 p.m. – It's not the Biles II, but Biles pulls off a nearly perfect Cheng on the vault with only half a point deducted from the execution score. She earns a massive 15.100 to start her night.

1:48 p.m. – There's a slight hop on the landing but it's a beautiful start for Jones! Her vault earns scores a 14.233.

1:40 p.m. – Great Britain's Jessica Gadirova, who won the all-around bronze medal last year, has been pulled from the competition due to precautionary measures. A disappointment for a gymnast who was a strong contender for the podium. Alice Kinsella, who took fourth in the all-around at 2022 worlds, will replace her teammate.

1:32 p.m. – And we're off in Antwerp! Biles and Jones will both begin on vault.

12:55 p.m. – China's Ou Yushan has withdrawn from the competition. France will now have two gymnasts represented in the finals with the addition of Morgane Osyssek-Reimer.

12:25 p.m. – Biles heads into the all-around finals with the highest-rated vault at a 6.4 difficulty. Does this mean she's pulling out the Biles II, a Yurchenko double pike? She debuted the vault during qualifiers but did not perform it during the team finals.
