Despite an injury to Kristaps Porzingis, the Celtics still sit atop of the Eastern Conference standings. Now, the 7-3 forward is nearing is return.

In a loss to the Magic on Nov. 24, the one-time All-Star was forced to exit early with a left calf injury. After initial testing, it was revealed that Porzingis would miss time due to the injury.

Porzingis, who was acquired by the Celtics via an offseason trade, has proven to be a major addition. Through 15 games, the 28-year-old is averaging 18.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.7 blocks per game.

What is Kristaps Porzingis' injury?

Porzingis' injury has been ruled as a left calf strain.

On Sunday, Nov. 26, the Celtics announced that Porzingis would miss time with the calf injury that he sustained against the Magic on Nov. 24. In the loss, he finished with nine points and four rebounds in 22 minutes of action.

How long is Kristaps Porzingis out?

After missing four games with the injury, Porzingis posted on Instagram that he's "lined up for the next game," which will come at home against the Knicks on Friday, Dec. 8.

The Celtics did not disclose the severity of Porzingis' calf strain, which can be classified as Grade 1, 2 or 3. A Grade 1 calf strain involves "microscopic damage" and on average takes seven to 10 days to heal. If Porzingis returns on Friday, he will be back in the lineup 14 days after initially going down.
