Jack Della Maddalena will attempt to continue his rapid ascent up the welterweight rankings in the UFC when he squares off against Gilbert Burns in March next year.

The highly touted Australian will go toe-to-toe with the #4-ranked Brazilian when the duo feature on a stacked card in Miami at UFC 299.

The exciting match-up was announced by Dana White following UFC 296 last weekend, where Leon Edwards retained his welterweight strap against Colby Covington.

"Before I get started, I'll announce some fights for you," White said.

"This Miami card is stacking up to be badass. Michael 'Venom' Page versus Kevin Holland, Song Yadong versus Petr Yan, Gilbert Burns versus Jack Della and Ian Garry versus Geoff Neal."

Sean O'Malley will defend his bantamweight belt against Marlon Vera in the pre-announced main event for the card on March 9.

Who is Jack Della Maddalena fighting?

Burns will undoubtedly present the toughest test of Maddalena's credentials since he debuted in the UFC in 2022.

The 27-year-old remains undefeated inside the octagon since his bow against Pete Rodriguez, having also dispatched the likes of Randy Brown and Bassil Hafez during his six-fight winning streak in the promotion.

Maddalena's most recent fight came in September at UFC Fight Night 227 when he added Holland to his list of scalps via split decision.

It was the second time in a row where the current #11-ranked fighter has won in such a manner after also narrowly accounting for Hafez back in July during a hastily arranged bout.

Pre-announced UFC 299 fight card

  • Sean O'Malley vs. Marlon Vera (Bantamweight title fight)
  • Katlyn Chookagian vs. Maycee Barber (Flyweight)
  • Curtis Blades vs. Jailton Almeida (Heavyweight)
  • Mateusz Gamrot vs. Rafael dos Anjos (Lightweight)
  • Pedro Munhoz vs. Kyler Phillips (Bantamweight)
