Kohli last featured in a T20I game on November 10, 2022. India played England in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval. It has been close to 14 months that Kohli has not featured in T20Is.

In Kohli's previous T20I game, he scored a half-century. In the World Cup semi-final, the Indian batter scored a 40-ball 50, hitting four boundaries and one maximum. Courtesy of Kohli's 50, India set a respectable total in the knockout game.

However, all went wrong for India in the run-chase. England won the game by 10 wickets, as the openers scored 170 runs in 16 overs. Skipper Jos Buttler scored 80 off 49 deliveries. His partner-in-crime, Alex Hales scored 86 off 47 deliveries. The England duo smashed 13 boundaries and 10 maximum off their blades to record a thumping win.
