As the 2023/24 Premier League season moves into its second half there is a growing chance for more records to be smashed for both individual players and teams.

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City are aiming to defend their Premier League trophy in 2024, and if they can retain their crown, the blue half of Manchester will become the first club to win four successive Premier League titles.

However, alongside the City juggernaut, there is also the possibility for changes on individual player records, as part of the Golden Boot race and other key battles.

The Sporting News looks at the Premier League record books at the start of 2024 to see where there could be new ground broken this season.

Premier League records 2023/24

The Premier League features a huge list of team and star player records, here are some of the key ones to keep an eye on in 2024:

*All data correct as of January 3, 2024.

Most Premier League teams goals in a season

Unsurprisingly, Guardiola's City find themselves at the top of this list after scoring an incredible 106 goals on route to winning the 2017/18 Premier League title, and Guardiola's first in English football.

City under Guardiola dominate the top five list in this category, however, the top scoring side has not always won the title.

Erling Haaland's sensational debut campaign in 2022/23 capped an incredible campaign for City. The Norwegian superstar succeeded in his objective, with an incredible 36 league goals, to break the previous joint record held by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole.

Premier League goals

Haaland made an outrageous start to life in English football, by breaking Shearer's joint one season record, but he has long way to go to overhaul the former England international as the Premier League's top gun.

Shearer netted 260 Premier League goals prior to his retirement in 2006, and he will remain unchallenged in the coming years, after second place Harry Kane opted to join Bayern Munich.

Premier League appearances

The list of all-time Premier League appearance roster includes some famous names and career veterans with an incredible tally of 13 players racking up 500+ Premier League appearances.

Gareth Barry tops the list, ahead of Manchester United icon Ryan Giggs, but the evergreen James Milner is closing the gap after completing a summer move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

City's incredible goal tally in the 2017/18 season was also matched by a record points high as Guardiola's charges amassed 100 points from 38 games played.

Liverpool have the unwanted record of securing the highest points total, but without winning the title in a set campaign, after finishing one point behind City in 2018/19.

From the incredible benchmark set by City for points gained, at the opposite end of the table there have been some paltry points totals, for teams sliding through the relegation trap door.

Derby County's 11 points from 2007/08 remains as the lowest ebb with Sunderland making two appearances in the top (or bottom) five.
