Boxing fans wanted it, and so did the fighters. The sport has delivered, as the ultimate fight at flyweight is happening. Jesse Rodriguez and Sunny Edwards face off in an eagerly anticipated unification showdown.

Rodriguez puts his WBO title on the line while Edwards defends his IBF championship. The fight airs on DAZN, and emanates from the Desert Diamond Arena in Arizona on December 16.

A silver medalist in the 2015 Junior World Championships, Rodriguez turned pro in 2017. “Bam” made himself known in 2020 thanks to his knockout power, with 11 wins via the power punch. The talented lefty defeated Carlos Cuadras in February 2022 for the WBC super flyweight title and then battered former champ Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in his maiden defense.

In April, Rodriguez beat Cristian Gonzalez via unanimous decision to win the WBO flyweight crown.

A 2015 English National Championship gold medalist, Edwards turned pro in 2016. In 2019, he won the British super flyweight title and quickly excelled at the world level. Despite being an underdog, “Showtime” would wrench the IBF title from long-reigning champ Moruti Mthalane in 2021 and he's defended successfully four times,

Edwards’ last fight was in early June when he impressively defeated the Chilean challenger Andres Campos via unanimous decision. Following that bout, Edwards goaded Rodriguez to “sign the contract.”
