According to research, sleep tremendously influences our mental health and can impact everything from our mood and self-esteem to our memory and cognitive function. As many have learned the hard way over the past few years, having a lot of free time at home doesn’t necessarily translate into better sleep and rest or focusing on nurturing our mental health.

Increasingly, people are heading to their local spas or leaving their homes to find a slice of zen and seek help to learn to cope with stress, burnout and fatigue. From programmes catering to better sleep to spa treatments incorporating elements of digital detox, wellness experts are coming up with creative new ways to help people sleep, rest and relax better.

According to Amy Chan, assistant group director of spa & wellness at Langham Hospitality Group, wellness experiences have become a vital part of the holiday experience for many.

“The norm now is health is wealth. That is why health and wellness travel is trending more than ever. [Spas and hotels are] creating the best journey from the time guest books their appointment, arrive for service, and until departure from the spa with home care advice,” says Chan.

Genesis Day Lagasca, director of Spa and Wellness at Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, where its Digital Detox treatment is gaining traction amongst guests, notices people have difficulty finding the time and a private space to relax. This has become increasingly problematic as the lines between work time and me time blurs with the rise of working from home.

Those seeking a bit of serenity might choose to do so away from home, be it for a few hours at a spa or a vacation to get away from it all. “[Guests] are expecting a seamless, carefree, and relaxing experience,” says Chan.

While the Mandarin encourages guests to leave their digital devices behind to unwind fully, The Langham Group has launched the Sleep Matters by Chuan programme that focuses on delivering the ultimate relaxation- a great night’s sleep.

Created in partnership with the World Sleep Society, the programme provides curated experiences to help guests sleep better. Chan says that treatments at Chuan Spa locations around the globe, a list of recommended bedtime rituals, and a soundtrack that promises to kick-start quality shut-eye have all become an essential part of the wellness travel experience for many.

These curated wellness offerings are escapes from our daily lives in the truest sense, a getaway to catch up on a bit of sleep and recalibrate your mind.
